Pass the Ocean, Hon!
A “Fly-In” at the Beach

Dance levels will be Mainstream through Challenge C3, with higher levels scheduled depending on demand.  Please note that all dancing will be on carpeted surfaces.  Appropriate footwear is advised.  Our registration fees have not increased from PTOH 2016.  A Discounted Registration Fee of $90 is available for payments postmarked on or before  Monday, November 30, 2016.  You can download the Registration form as a PDF document:

Want to bring along your non-dancing partner?  The "Dance Widow" fee is only $15, and entitles a person to all the PTOH events except Mainstream and higher dancing levels.  Specific items included are: snacks during each dance session, door prize raffle, basket auction, 50/50 raffle, and potential Open House dance hours.  We encourage dance widows to try one of the latter.  Say your "Dance Widow" doesn't plan to visit or hang out at the Hotel, then there's no obligation to pay the fee.

We are recommending the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center, our host hotel for the dancing and lodgings, located at 101 North Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach (Hotel access is via Baltimore Avenue, which runs parallel 1 block north of Rehoboth Avenue).

In the block of rooms reserved for square dancers, rates start at $125 per night for standard rooms (single or double occupancy) for any night (Thursday thru Sunday).  For triple occupancy, the rate is $140; for quad occupancy, it is $155.  An applicable tax of 8% will be additional.  Safe rental costs $1.50 per day.  Check-in time begins at 4:00 pm.  Guests arriving before 4:00 pm will be accommodated as rooms become available.

In past years there were special rates for early arrivals on Thursday and for stays over on Sunday night.  Unfortunately these rates are no longer offered by the Sands Hotel.

The Chesapeake Squares block of rooms (Booking ID # 8092) will be held through Tuesday, March 28, 2017.  After that time, remaining rooms will be released to the general public.  If you call to reserve rooms after the cut-off date, the Sands Hotel will NOT honor the special discounted rates for Chesapeake Squares.

The Sands has asked us to advise guests that rooms are "Run of the House", meaning that reservations are guaranteed at the discounted rate only, and not for a specific room type (or specific room numbers). But the Sands will note a "request", and accommodate you as best as possible.

Smoking is prohibited in all areas of the hotel, including on the balconies.  Violation of this policy by an overnight guest may result in a $200 penalty.

Make reservations by calling (toll-free) 1-800-422-0600. Remember to ask for the Chesapeake Squares' reserved block of rooms (Booking ID #8092).  These special reservations can not be made on the Sands web site.

One complimentary parking space per room is provided in the Sands lot for overnight guests.  If your lodgings for the weekend are elsewhere, be advised that you will need to find parking on the street.  Spaces are scarce, and most easily found during the morning hours.

Check-out time is 11:00 am.  The Sands is resistant to granting a late check-out time.  But, if on Sunday you advise the desk staff early of your desire to check-out by 1:00 pm, you might have a minuscule chance for success.  (We did try hard.)

And lastly a word about the In-Room Safe Warranty Fee of $1.50 per day:  if you decide to not use the room safe, so advise the desk clerk when checking out, and the fee will be removed from your bill.

Pass the Ocean, Hon! 2017
31st Annual Fly-In
The Atlantic Sands Hotel and Convention Center
directly on the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
Callers will be Anne Uebelacker, Bill Harrison, and Dayle Hodge.

PTOH 2016 brought dramatic changes.  We headquartered next to the beach with views of the Atlantic Ocean from the rooms where we danced.  We heard many approving comments about having the dancers’ rooms easily accessible in the same building.  The floors were carpeted instead of wooded, but dancers adapted with few problems.  The Hotel allowed only packaged snacks, instead of the open table food that we offered at the Convention Center last year.  And there was no Sunday Brunch because we could not do our own food preparation.  However few cared because there was THE OCEAN.  Everyone is now looking forward to another grand time at PTOH 2017.

Thanks to all the attendees for making PTOH 2016 a memorable event!

A PTOH 2017 discounted $90 registration is offered if postmarked by Monday, November 30, 2016.
